You’re probably familiar with the effect of dropping mint flavored Mentos candies in a bottle of Diet Coke. But in case you’re not, check out this video, in which Diet Coke and Mentos geysers are timed to mimic the Bellagio fountain:
But why do Diet Coke, as opposed to regular Coke, and mint flavored Mentos, as opposed to the fruit flavored variety, make the best geysers? Apparently, the aspartame (artificial sweetener) in Diet Coke contributes to the reaction, as does the comparatively rougher surface of mint Mentos; more bubbles can form in the nooks and crannies, ultimately producing a fizzier explosion.
