Brian Jacques, In Memoriam
Last week, on February 5, the literary world lost a great contributor, a great storyteller: Brian Jacques, the author of the Redwall series of novels and the Castaways of the Flying Dutchman books.
The Redwall books earned Jacques his notoriety, and they tell the epic story of events in the world of Redwall, mostly relating to Redwall Abbey, but often including the surrounding country. The world of Redwall is filled with talking animals of all kinds, and involves the conflicts and friendships between the different groups. Their world is lush and vibrant and the characters cover the whole spectrum of animals, both good and bad, with wonderful characterization that directly relates to the different types of animals.
